Garden Update: Peas!

Well, one garden is carrying on around here. At least one part of it: we've been picking and eating fresh peas, and they are gooooood. (We do get to eat lots of veggies at meals -- the amalas are good at growing stuff, and the kitchen staff works wonders with it.... but it is pretty rare to get to eat veggies that aren't cooked.) Mmm Quinoa

I have been helping with an Experiential Education project here at Gatsal, experimenting with growing Quinoa (a nutritious grain). Quinoa originates in the Andes mountains of Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, a region possibly similar to the Himalayan mountains. Our friend Amma -- here teaching science from Jamaica -- is in charge, and I do what I can to help her and help teach the Class 8 & 9 kids who are working on the project.
